ACTRESS QUITS POLITICS, SAYS NOT HER CUP OF TEA | 16 February, 2024

Bengali film actress and Parliamentarian Mimi Chakraborty handed in her resignation as a Trinamool Congress MP to chief minister Mamata Banerjee on 15th February, explaining that politics was not her cup of tea. She is one of the four TMC MPs from the world of films, the other three being Nushrat Jahan, Dev and Satabdi Roy.

In a 15-minute meeting with the CM, Mimi told her that she would remain a worker, not a leader. She expressed her unwillingness to contest the Lok Sabha elections.

Mimi, who is an MP from Jadavpur constituency of Calcutta, had faced criticism for the pace of development work. She explained that although she had to often hear that she had failed to deliver since she was an actor, the fact was that she was number one in spending MPLADS funds.

Mimi said, her decision to resign was not to put pressure on the party into nominating her for the LS polls. She added that she would await Mamata Banerjee’s decision before forwarding her resignation to the Speaker.
