Advocate P.C. Solanki of Jodhpur, who has inspired Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai, has sent the film’s producers a legal notice alleging violation of intellectual property rights. Manoj Bajpayee’s character in Bandaa is said to be inspired by advocate Poonam Chand Solanki. The court hearing is scheduled for May 31.
Reportedly, Solanki is unhappy with the film as well as his portrayal in it. The film is said to be based on Solanki’s legal fight against Asaram Bapu. While the producers claim to have acquired the right to use his name and story from P.C. Solanki, the advocate himself denies this. According to him, those who signed an agreement with him, sold the rights without informing him. P.C. Solanki claims that the script was not approved by him.
Incidentally, Asaram Bapu’s charitable trust, Sant Shri Asaramji Ashram Charitable Trust, has also sent the filmmakers a legal notice alleging that the film is “highly objectionable and defamatory”.
