Both, Anek and Hollywood film Top Gun: Maverick, held promise. Their trailers suggested that the public was in for a treat. The Bollywood film promised novelty and intensity. The Hollywood film seemed to be offering thrills, chills and lots of entertainment.
However, like man proposes, God disposes, one can also say, trailer proposes, film disposes. Both the films, released today (27th May), have failed to live up to the expectations raised by their trailers. If Anek has taken a pathetic start today, the opening of Top Gun: Maverick yesterday was no better. Frankly, one fails to understand the logic behind the odd-day release of Top Gun. Since yesterday (Thursday, May 26) was not a holiday or a festival, why did Viacom18 Motion Pictures even think of releasing the film on Thursday? Its initial was poor for this reason also. Collections in the morning shows today are hardly any better. In fact, shows of both, Anek and Top Gun: Maverick, had to be cancelled in several cinemas across circuits this morning due to lack of audience.
With the public reports of both the films not being too positive, it can safely be predicted that it won’t be long before multiplexes and single-screen cinemas reduce the number of shows of both these films. The beneficiary, of course, would be Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 which continues to do good business. Its first week closed just Rs. 8 crore short of the Rs. 100-crore mark. With the reports of this week’s releases being poor, BB2 will make a quicker entry into the 100-crore club.
