‘APPU’ (ANIMATION) REVIEW | 19 April, 2024

Appu Series’ Appu (animation) is the story of elephant Appu saving his father, Kannan, from a don.

Prosenjit Ganguly has penned a story which is fairly interesting. His screenplay is just average as it does not evoke the necessary emotions in the viewers’ hearts. Dialogues are commonplace.

Prosenjit Ganguly, Ajay Velu and Archisman Kar’s direction is ordinary. The narration does not make the viewers feel elated at too many places. Animation is quite nice. Music (Dipankar Chaki and Roto Shah) is nothing to shout about. Aishwarya Kumaresh’s lyrics pass muster. Dipankar Chaki’s background music is fairly good. Anil Kumar Yadagiri’s editing is sharp.

On the whole, Appu is an average fare but will go largely unnoticed because of two reasons — animation films are not very popular in India, and its promotion is low-key.

Released on 19-4-’24 at Movie Time Goregaon (daily 2 shows) and other cinemas of Bombay thru Cinepolis India. Publicity & opening: poor. …….Also released all over. Opening was weak everywhere.
