Assamese film actress Nandini Kashyap was arrested today (July 30) in a hit-and-run case in Guwahati, in which a student was killed. The accident happened on the night of July 25 when one Samiul Haque was hit by an SUV. Samiul studied in the Nalbari Polytechnic College and worked part-time in Guwahati Municipal Corporation. He was repairing a street light when a Scorpio car hit him and injured him badly.
According to eyewitnesses, Nandini did not stop her car to help the victim. Samiul was taken to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital by his friends who were with him, and was later shifted to a private hospital where he died in the ICU late on the night of July 29.
Nandini was first interrogated as the case was filed under bailable sections. However, the additional charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder was added and the actress was arrested today after Samiul passed away last night (July 29).
The police registered a case against Kashyap under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), including BNS section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and BNSS 125B (hit-and-run causing death). Both offences are non-bailable.
