AYESHA JULKA STARTS ONLINE CAMPAIGN AGAINST ANIMAL CRUELTY | 16 October, 2020

Ayesha Julka on 12th October launched an online campaign, demanding stricter laws against animal cruelty. The actress’ six-year-old dog was allegedly killed on September 13 by her hired caretaker at Lonavala. The caretaker was granted bail within hours of his arrest under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act, 1960. The name of the campaign started by Ayesha is Inka Bhi Haq Hai (They Too Have Rights). The Society for Animal Safety (SAS) has joined Ayesha in her endeavour.

It is Ayesha’s mission to have the antiquated law amended. Currently, the PCA levies a fine of just Rs. 50 on those accused of causing unnecessary suffering to animals. Under the law, the caretaker, Andre, was arrested under section 429 of the IPC (mischief by killing animals) but he was immediately granted bail as per procedure.
