The trailer of Tilakraj Ballal’s Banaras was released on 26th September in Bangalore amidst a lot of fanfare. The film has been made in Kannada and is being dubbed in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. The trailers in all the five languages were released simultaneously at PVR in Orion Mall. Arbaaz Khan did the honours for the Hindi version’s trailer. The film is being readied for release on 4th November.
Zaid Khan makes his debut in the film opposite Sonal Monteiro. Zaid is the son of sitting MLA from Chamarajpet constituency in Karnataka, B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan. The boy seems to have made a confident debut if the trailer is any indication. He revealed at the press conference, which followed the trailer launch, that his father was against the idea of Zaid joining films. He would have preferred to see his son head a business empire instead. But Zaid’s heart was in films.
Producer Tilakraj Ballal, who is a close family friend of the Khans, said that he had to convince Zameer Khan to allow Zaid to become an actor, after Zaid told his “Tilakraj uncle” to launch him in films. Said Ballal, “I explained to Zameer Ahmad, who is a dear friend, that there was nothing wrong if Zaid followed his passion. I also told him that five years from now, if he and his son were to alight a plane together and walk out of the airport, the son would have more people cheering for and recognising him than he himself (father).” Continuing, Ballal added, “I also told Zameer Ahmad Khan that in the years to come, he would be referred to as Zaid’s father rather than Zaid getting an identity due to his (father’s) name.”
Jayatheertha is the writer-director of Banaras.
