Bengali film and theatre actor Koushik Kar has joined the BJP. As soon as he announced his affiliation with the BJP, he was dropped from performing in Saurav Palodhi’s adaptation of Utpal Dutt’s Ghum Nei play. According to Palodhi, Kar’s political affiliation was reason enough to drop him from the play. Said Saurav Palodhi, “While adapting Dutt’s play, Koushik and I had created his character and named him Akhlaq. The name had a reference to the 2015 Dadri beef case. Allowing someone to play Akhlaq after joining the BJP will be attacking the soul of the play.”
