Bengali film actress Rupa Dutta, who has also acted in Hindi TV serials, was arrested on March 12 on charges of pick-pocketing at the Calcutta Book Fair in Calcutta. She was allegedly caught while she was dumping multiple handbags inside a garbage bin.
The police found Rs. 65,700 on her person. The investigating police officers felt, Rupa may be suffering from some disease and hence they did not seek police custody for her. Instead, they opted for judicial remand. The magistrate allowed judicial remand of a day and cited laxity in probe as she began to cry inside the court.
