SRK Music, the producers of Bhojpuri film Rang De Basanti, have filed a writ petition in the Bombay high court against the Central Board of Film Certification for the latter not granting it certificate. The film, scheduled for release on March 22, was seen by the CBFC’s examining committee on February 19 and was cleared for screening (‘UA’ certificate) but the certificate has still not been given to the producers.
The unofficial reason given by the CBFC to the producers is that the chairman would prefer the producers to change the title. The only reason one can think of for this unusual ‘request’ is that CBFC chairman Prasoon Joshi was the co-dialogue writer and lyricist of the Hindi Rang De Basanti (2006). But can this ever be the reason to hold the certificate of a film?
