The Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) has found Bollywood celebrities like Ranveer Singh and Jacqueline Fernandez as also several popular digital content creators to be in violation of advertising guidelines for social media influencers. The guidelines, which came into effect in June last year, stipulate that all paid social media posts by virtual influencers must carry disclosure labels that clearly identify those as paid advertisements.
Several top celebrities in India started using disclaimers after the guidelines kicked in.
