BOOK FILMMAKERS UNDER POCSO: NCPCR | 28 October, 2023

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has ordered the police to initiate legal proceedings against two filmmakers for using children in obscene scenes in their film/OTT series. One of them is director Mahesh Manjrekar who filmed sexual scenes on children in Marathi film Nay Varan Bhat Loncha Kon Nay Koncha. The other is Alankrita Shrivastava, the director of OTT series Bombay Begums. The two makers will be booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO), NCPCR chairman Priyank Kanoongo said on October 27.

“We have issued new guidelines for the safety of children working in the entertainment industry and have ordered the police to file an FIR against the director of OTT series Bombay Begums for picturising scenes showing children consuming narcotics,” said Kanoongo. Manjrekar picturised sexual scenes on children in his Marathi film. “We came to know that the CBFC had objected to the sex scenes in the film, and have ordered the police to initiate action against the various people involved in it,” explained Kanoongo.
