Wilson is invited to the White House by President-elect Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford), and he takes Torres and Bradley along with him. While addressing the international leaders, Ross is attacked by five men, one of who is Isaiah Bradley. Obviously, Bradley is arrested, and Wilson loses his chance to execute the new President’s plan of re-forming the Avengers. Is Bradley guilty of attempted murder? He pleads that he isn’t. Wilson investigates with Torres. The investigation reveals so many things which the two are not prepared for. Later, Samuel Sterns (Tim Blake Nelson) exposes Thaddeus Ross to the public, causing the President to change into the Red Hulk. Is Wilson able to save the President from falling from grace? Anthony Mackie acts beautifully as Captain America alias Sam Wilson. He is terrific in action and stunt scenes. Harrison Ford leaves a wonderful impression as President Thaddeus Ross/Red Hulk. Danny Ramirez is convincing as Joaquin Torres. Shira Haas is adequate as President Ross’ security advisor, Ruth Bat-Seraph. Carl Lumbly is wonderful in the role of Isaiah Bradley. Xosha Roquemore lends fine support as Secret Service agent Leila Taylor. Tim Blake Nelson is terrifying as Samuel Sterns. Sebastian Stan is endearing in a cameo appearance as Bucky Barnes. Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson (as Copperhead, a member of the Serpent Society), Giancarlo Esposito (as Seth Voelker/Sidewinder, a scientist who is the leader of the Serpent Society), Liv Tyler (as Betty Ross), William Mark McCullough (as Dennis Dunphy), Takehiro Hira (as Japan’s Prime Minister, Ozaki), Rick Espaillat (as President of France) and the others lend excellent support.
Julius Onah’s direction is quite nice. Laura Carpman’s background music is effective. Kramer Morgenthau’s cinematography is excellent. Ramsey Avery’s production designing is of a fine standard. Madeleine Gavin and Matthew Schmidt’s editing deserves mention for its sharpness. Dubbing is proper.
On the whole, Captain America: Brave New World is a fair entertainer but its ordinary start will be the show spoiler.
