‘CASTING DIRECTOR’ CONS ASPIRING ACTORS | 24 January, 2021

A criminal offence has been registered against a person who was fraudulently claiming to be a casting director of T-Series and taking money from aspiring actors looking for a break in films. He charged the money as an audition fee. The man had created a fake profile and advertised on social media, mentioning that Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series was about to launch a film, Radheshyam, for which he, as casting director, was auditioning after charging a fee. He collected money in this way for several months.

It is when T-Series got telephone calls from several people to enquire about the audition that the company saw red and filed a complaint with the Amboli police station at Andheri in Bombay. An FIR was lodged on January 18. The police station has not so far received any complaint from any of the persons who had been duped. A case of cheating and forgery has been filed under sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Copyright Act.
