CINEMA REFUNDS MONEY COLLECTED FOR ILLEGAL SCREENING OF ‘KAAGAZ’ | 8 January, 2021

Sachi multiplex at Veraval (in Saurashtra) was all set to screen Kaagaz in daily 3 shows from today (8th January). Why, it had also issued tickets to those who wanted to book theirs in advance. The only hitch was that Zee, which had acquired the rights of the Satish Kaushik and Salman Khan film, had not released it in cinemas except a few select cinemas of Uttar Pradesh. Other than that, the film premiered on 7th January on Zee5. The Uttar Pradesh cinema release was necessary as otherwise, the producers would not be able to claim the subsidy due, for shooting the film in the state.

Zee swung into action on learning that Sachi multiplex was all geared up to indulge in the piracy of its film. On Zee threatening to take action against the multiplex, Sachi had no choice but to refund the monies to patrons who had booked tickets.
