Noted Indian classical vocalist Rashid Khan lost his battle with cancer on 9th January in Calcutta. H was 55.
Rashid Khan was considered an extremely versatile singer who rendered classical songs with as much ease as he did film songs. Among his best known film numbers was Aaoge jab tum sajana for Imtiaz Ali’s Jab We Met. His voice also made the Allah hee rehum song from My Name Is Khan a listener’s delight. He also sang songs in Bengali films like Mitin Mashi and Kadambari. His rendition of Megh jome aachhe in Bengali film Tara brought tears to many listeners’ eyes.
Even while he was young, the legendary Bhimsen Joshi had seen the spark in him to declare him to be the “great hope” for the future of Indian classical music. Besides being a great singer, Rashid Khan was also an expert cook and was known for his biryani.
