A consumer court in Bangalore recently ordered a diagnostic centre to pay a Kannada film actress Rs. 1.50 lakh as compensation for falsely certifying that she was suffering from end-stage cancer, driving her into severe mental agony and depression. The actress was relieved to know from two other city clinics that she was hale and hearty.
Shaken by the initial diagnosis, the actress sued the first diagnostic centre for the stress and tension caused to her. The general health check-up report of the actress on February 25, 2022 from Icon Diagnostic Centre at Basaveshwarnagar in Bangalore said that she was suffering from fibrosarcoma uterus with abdominal metastasis and liver metastasis and grade 1 splenomegaly.
Distraught, she underwent tests at another diagnostic centre in the city, which certified that she was completely normal. To be doubly sure, she took another round of tests at yet another lab, which too did not mention anything about cancer. That’s when she filed a complaint with the 1st additional district consumer disputes redressal commission at Shantinagar in Bangalore against Icon Diagnostic Centre and its house radiologist, Dr. Rajkamal.
