Following a petition filed by Azhar Tamboli and activists of a community, the Bombay high court on June 5 has stayed the release Hamare Baarah on June 7. The petition challenges the film’s content, alleging misrepresentation of Islamic sentiments and the Quran. The film, which talks about over-population and its multiple implications, was duly certified ‘UA’ by the Central Board of Film Certification. The stay on the release has come as a big shock to the producers as all arrangements for the theatrical release had been made.
In fact, Annu Kapoor, who plays a leading role in the film, recently met Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde alongwith the director and producers of the controversial film, to thank him for the police protection provided to them and for his assurance of safety during the release week.
Hamare Baarah is produced by Ravi S. Gupta, Birender Bhagat and Sanjay Nagpal. Kamal Chandra is the director while the story is written by Rajan Agarwal.
