CURFEW IN AKOLA AFTER RIOTS OVER ‘THE KERALA STORY’ | 15 May, 2023

A man was killed and eight others were injured on May 13 at Hariharpeth in Akola when two communities clashed over a social media post on The Kerala Story. The authorities clamped curfew in sensitive pockets of the city and suspended internet services for 36 hours from the noon of May 14.

Vilas Gaikwad, a 40-year-old electrician, was killed when both the sides pelted stones at each other after a crowd gathered outside Ramdaspeth police station and alleged that an Instagram post linked to the controversial film had insulted the Prophet.

A car and other vehicles were torched. Around 30 persons were arrested. Investigations are in progress.
