The Maharashtra cyber cell has summoned actress Tamannaah Bhatia on April 29 in a case related to illegal broadcast of the 2023 IPL matches on Fairplay, a betting app which is a subsidiary of Mahadev online gaming and betting app. Tamannaah is alleged to have promoted the app. She has been asked to appear before the cyber cell to record her statement.
The case against Fairplay for streaming IPL matches illegally on its platform was filed in September last year. The illegal streaming allegedly resulted in a loss of over Rs. 100 crore to Viacom18 which held the official broadcasting rights.
Besides Tamannaah, other film celebrities who have been similarly summoned for promoting the app are Sanjay Dutt, Jacqueline Fernandez and singer Badshah.
