The Punjab and Haryana high court on September 15 suspended the sentence of singer Daler Mehndi who is in jail after being convicted in a human trafficking case. Justice Gurvinder Singh Gill passed the order while allowing the plea filed by the singer against his conviction and seeking suspension of his sentence. His appeal against his conviction is yet to be decided by the high court.
Daler was convicted and jailed in July this year by a Patiala court in connection with a human trafficking case. He is presently in the Patiala jail and has been arguing that he was falsely arraigned and had been wrongly convicted by the learned judicial magistrate 1st class, Patiala in a judgement passed on March 16, 2018.
