Abhishek Bachchan plays a Haryanvi politician for the first time in his career in Jio Studios and Maddock Films’ Dasvi, a social comedy. The film’s trailer is definitely promising. The story is about this politician, Ganga Ram Chaudhary (Abhishek Bachchan), who is a school dropout. A strict and upright jailor (played by Yami Gautam) calls him “anpadh, ganwaar” (illiterate and uncouth). This hurts the politician’s ego so much that he takes it up as a challenge to now complete his school education (Std. X). Nimrat Kaur is cast as Abhishek’s feisty wife in the film, a role for which the slim actress had to “put on weight”, as debut-making director Tushar Jalota informed.
Dasvi will stream on Jio Cinema and Netflix from 7th April. Tushar loved the script when Sandeep Layzell first narrated the story idea to him. Although the film had its share of lockdown problems, the unit is thrilled with the end product. Why, at the screening of the trailer for the media persons, Abhishek repeatedly complimented Tushar and expressed how happy he was with the trailer. In fact, Abhishek was also watching the trailer for the first time, along with members of the media because he was in Bangkok for a brief holiday before that. He landed in India (Bombay) just in time for the press screening of the trailer and reached the venue (PVR Maison, Jio Mall) straight from the airport.
The film is based on Ram Bajpai’s story. The screenplay has been written by Ritesh Shah, Suresh Nair and Sandeep Layzell.
