Exactly a year after shots were fired outside actor Salman Khan’s residence at Bandra in Bombay, the Worli (Bombay) traffic police’s helpline on April 13 received a WhatsApp message threatening to enter the actor’s house and kill him and blow up his car with a bomb. Within 24 hours of filing the FIR, the Worli police identified the sender as Mayank Pandya (25) from Baroda in Gujarat and detained him. Mayank is undergoing treatment for a mental illness.
The threat message was written in Hindi. During questioning, Mayank said that he recently joined a social media group where he learnt about the Lawrence Bishnoi gang targeting Salman because he had killed a black buck in 1998 in Rajasthan during the shooting of Rajshri’s Hum Saath-Saath Hain.
In the last three years, Salman and his family members have received multiple death threats from the Bishnoi gang.
