‘DIL DIMAG AUR BATTI’ (MARATHI) REVIEW | 6 May, 2022

Saa Creations’ Dil Dimag Aur Batti (Marathi; UA) is the story of triplets who are raised by three different mothers.

Jaya (Sonali Kulkarni) gives birth to triplets and christens them Dilip, Amar and Jyoti. Amar and Jyoti get separated from Dilip and their mother. The triplets grow up and meet years later. Their mother and foster mothers also meet. Their maternal grandfather, Manmohan Desai (Dilip Prabhavalkar), also meets them.

Hrishikesh Gupte has written an outrageously ridiculous story which abounds in unreal situations. His screenplay is full of unbelievable incidents and silly coincidences, probability of which are less than 1%. The story and screenplay are so confusing that the audience loses interest very early on. Hrishikesh Gupte’s dialogues are at least better than the terrible story and screenplay.

Sonali Kulkarni in triple roles (as mothers Jaya, Rekha and Hema) does a splendid job. Dilip Prabhavalkar, also in triple roles, is good. Pushkar Shrotri is alright as Amitabh. Vandana Gupte lends fine support in the role of Akka/Devki. Kishor Kadam makes his presence felt as Babban. Anand Ingale has his moments as Abbas Taxiwala. Sagar Sant is not too impressive as Dilip/Dil. Mayuresh Pem is so-so as Amar/Dimagbhai. Sanskruti Balgude is average as Jyoti/Batti. Rewati Limaye is okay as Dilip’s wife. Sakhi Gokhale (as Laxmi), Manasi Magikar (as Rekha’s mother), Meghna Erande (as Jaya’s friend, Vandana), Sanjay Kulkarni (as Bala), Pushkar Chirputkar (as Pappi Singh) and Vaibhav Mangle (as Godbole in double roles) are alright.

Hrishikesh Gupte’s direction is dull. Except for the tuneful ‘Ghoda lavin’ song, music (Avadhoot Gupte) is ordinary. Lyrics are fair. Umesh Jadhav’s song picturisations are quite alright. Susmit Limaye’s background music passer muster. Saleel Sahasrabuddhe’s camerawork is ordinary. Pradyumna Kumar Swain’s action and stunts are functional. Siddharth Tatooskar’s art direction is of a good standard. Faisal-Imran’s editing ought to have been sharper.

On the whole, Dil Dimag Aur Batti is a flop fare.
