The Bombay city crime branch on January 27 arrested car designer Dilip Chhabria’s sister, Kanchan, in the Rs. 5.7 crore cheating case filed by comedian and actor Kapil Sharma. Kanchan is the CEO of Dilip Chhabria Design Pvt. Ltd. A senior sales executive of the company, Nihal Bajaj, was also arrested. Kanchan and Bajaj were produced before the 37th metropolitan magistrate court yesterday (January 28). Meanwhile, Dilip’s bail plea was rejected by the court.
In his complaint, Kapil had said, he had ordered a customised make-up van in 2017 but the same had not been delivered by Chhabria in spite of a payment of Rs. 5.7 crore having been made to him.
Dilip Chhabria, wife Cherry, son Bonito, daughter-in-law Anushree, sister Kanchan and the company directors are accused in three cases — a Rs. 100-crore car finance and dual registration racket, a Rs. 5.7-crore cheating case filed by Kapil Sharma, and a Rs. 25-crore cheating case filed by Madras businessman Indermal Ramani.
Dilip Chhabria was first arrested on December 29, 2020 in connection with the car finance and dual registration scam. He was again arrested earlier this month in the Kapil Sharma case.
