EBRAHIM ALKAZI PASSES AWAY | 4 August, 2020

Noted theatre director and drama teacher Ebrahim Alkazi passed away today (4th August) of a heart attack at Escorts Hospital in New Delhi. He was 94. He had staged more than 50 plays in his lifetime. He was a strict disciplinarian and was known for the great research he invariably did for his plays.

As the director of the National School of Drama (NSD) from 1962 to 1977, Alkazi revolutionised Hindi theatre by his magnificent vision and his technical discipline. He was associated with training many well-known film and theatre actors and directors including Vijaya Mehta, Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri, Om Shivpuri, Manohar Singh, Uttara Baokar, Jyoti Subhash, Suhas Joshi, Rohini Hattangadi and Jaydev Hattangadi.
