The Enforcement Directorate are today (April 4) carrying out searches in five office premises of Gokulam Gopalan, one of the producers of the recently released Malayalam film L2: Empuraan which ran foul of the BJP and RSS. Around 10 sleuths reached the offices of Sree Gokulam Chit and Finance Co. Pvt. Ltd. in Madras and Kochi. It is alleged that the searches were over foreign exchange violations of over Rs. 1,000 crore.
The ED is also verifying alleged cheating and forgery cases registered against the company under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
Gokulam Gopalan stepped in as a producer of L2: Empuraan after the film was complete and ran into financial problems. He is a Kerala-origin businessman with interests in hospitality, healthcare, education, media, cinema, logistics and transport. His Sree Gokulam Group is widely known across South India.
