Actress and former MP Jaya Prada was today (August 11) sentenced to six months’ imprisonment by the Egmore court in Madras. The case was filed by employees of a cinema owned by her, her brother, Raja Babu, and Ram Kumar. The employees filed a petition for non-payment of ESI of the employees.
Jaya Prada appealed to the court to dismiss the case, promising to pay the staff all their dues. However, the advocate of the Labour Government Insurance Corporation objected to the actress’ plea following which she and three others were sentenced to jail for six months. Each of them was also asked to pay a fine of Rs. 5,000.
