‘FORENSIC’ REVIEW | 24 June, 2022

Soham Rockstar Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. and Mini Films’ Forensic is a thriller. It is a remake of a Malayalam film of the same name.

A young girl is murdered in Mussoorie on her birthday. Police inspector Megha Sharma (Radhika Apte) investigates the case. Forensic officer Johnny Khanna (Vikrant Massey) is called to do the forensic investigation. Megha and Johnny are ex-lovers. Megha’s elder sister was married to Johnny’s elder brother, Abhay Khanna (Rohit Bose Roy). She had committed suicide following the murder of her younger daughter in Rishikesh. Megha holds Abhay responsible for her sister’s death. Anyway, Megha gets her older niece, Anaya (Harbandana Kaur), to her house as she does not want her to live with or even meet the father. However, Anaya and Abhay do meet clandestinely. Anaya is under the treatment of psychologist Dr. Ranjana Gupta (Prachi Desai).

Even while investigations are on, two more young girls are found murdered on their respective birthdays.

Who is the murderer? What is his/her identity? Is the murderer nabbed or not?

Mansi Bagla has written the suspense story which doesn’t excite or thrill the viewers at all. Such and better stories are the subject matter of several television serials. Vishal Kapoor and Ajit Shashikant Jagtap’s screenplay lacks the excitement of a thriller and hence fails to involve the audience. Adhir Bhatt’s dialogues are okay.

Vikrant Massey acts well as the forensic expert, Johnny Khanna. Radhika Apte does a fine job as police inspector Megha Sharma. Rohit Bose Roy is alright as Abhay Khanna. Prachi Desai does fairly well as psychologist Dr. Ranjana Gupta. Baby Harbandana Kaur is alright as Anaya. Vindu Dara Singh (as Vinod Rawat), Ananth Mahadevan (as Dr. Ramesh Gupta), Subrata Dutta (as Ved Prakash Mathur), Rohit Singh (as Charlie Pinto), Vedansh (as Shashi), baby Chahat Singh Rajawat (as Jennifer), Aarti (as Jennifer’s mother), Vibhor (as Jennifer’s father) and the others lend routine support.

Vishal Furia’s direction is ordinary. He has not been able to create the atmosphere needed to enjoy a thriller. Music (Amol-Abhishek, Rachita Arora and Shabbir Ahmed) is nothing to shout about. Lyrics (Abhishek Talented, Ravi Rao and Shabbir Ahmed) pass muster. Adrija Gupta’s background music is average. Anshul Chobey’s cinematography is passable. Ajay Thakur Pathania’s action and stunt scenes lack fire. Sheetal Duggal’s production designing is dull. Abhijeet Deshpande’s editing leaves something to be desired.

On the whole, Forensic is a dull fare.

Released on 24-6-’22 on Zee5.
