Kennedy Miller Mitchell, Domain Entertainment and Village Roadshow Pictures’ Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (dubbed from the Hollywood film of the same name; A) is an action film. It is the fifth instalment in the Mad Max franchise and a prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road.
A young Furiosa (Alyla Browne) is abducted from her homeland by members of the Biker Horde, led by Dementus (Chris Hemsworth). Dementus wants to use her to find the place of abundance she hails from. However, Furiosa escapes. Dementus’ team is then defeated by Immortan Joe (Lachy Hulme), but Dementus himself escapes with young Furiosa.
Later, Dementus trades Furiosa and the Organic Mechanic (Angus Sampson) for Immortan Joe’s Gastown. Joe wants Furiosa to give birth to a full-life child. However, Furiosa plans her escape from Joe’s captivity. She meets Jack under whom she grows into an adept soldier and mechanic. Furiosa (Anya Taylor-Joy) tells Jack of her plan to return to her homeland, the Green Place. What happens thereafter? How does Furiosa seek revenge on Dementus?
George Miller and Nico Lathouris have penned a story and screenplay, which abound in action. However, other than the action, the drama holds the attention of the viewers only intermittently. The proceedings also get boring at times.
Anya Taylor-Joy does well as Furiosa. Tom Burke makes his mark as Jack, the principal commander of the Citadel’s military forces. Chris Hemsworth is lovely as Dementus. Alyla Browne impresses as young Furiosa. Lachy Hulme performs ably in the role of Immortan Joe. Nathan Jones has his moments as Joe’s muscular but dim-witted son, Rictus Erectus. Josh Helman is alright as Joe’s intellectually disabled son, Scabrous Scrotus. John Howard (as Joe’s ally, The People Eater), Angus Sampson (as The Organic Mechanic), Charlee Fraser (as Furiosa’s mother, Mary Jo Bassa), Quaden Bayles (as War Boy), Daniel Webber (as War Boy), Jacob Tomuri (as Max Rockatansky) and Elsa Pataky (as the Vulvalini General) provide the necessary support.
George Miller’s direction is fair. Tom Holkenborg’s background music is exciting. Simon Duggan’s cinematography is lovely. Colin Gibson’s production designing is of a good standard. Margaret Sixel and Eliot Knapman’s editing is reasonably sharp. Dubbing is good.
On the whole, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is not exactly the kind of film which would catch the fancy of the Hindi film-going audience.
