‘GOOD NEWWZ’ TRAILER UNANIMOUSLY PRAISED | 19 November, 2019

The trailer of Dharma Productions, Cape Of Good Films and Zee Studios’ Good Newwz has been loved by all in the film trade as also by members of the public. It was released at an event on 18th November at Cinepolis, Andheri, Bombay. Besides Karan Johar, Shashank Khaitan (the two producers of the film representing Dharma Productions) and Shariq Patel (representing Zee Studios), the entire cast of the film was present.

The trailer got a huge round of applause for its strong entertainment content. The film is about mixed in vitro fertilisation as both, Akshay Kumar and Diljit Dosanjh, have the same last name, Batra. Since both the men and their respective wives visit the same doctor for artificial insemination to have babies, that too, on the same day, the sperms of the two men get mixed up. Instead of Akshay Kumar’s sperm being planted in wife Kareena Kapoor’s womb, it is implanted in the womb of Diljit’s wife, Kiara Advani. Similarly, Diljit’s sperm finds a place in Kareena Kapoor’s womb. The comedy that follows seems to be the crux of the story.

The trailer launch was followed by the usual question-and-answer session and what followed that was not just interesting but also novel. Akshay Kumar picked up media people, one at a time, and posed them questions relating to newborns as the film relates to babies. Those answering correctly were given special gift hampers from Dharma Productions. And yes, in keeping with the theme and title of the film, every journalist and press photographer took home a king-sized laddoo from Tewari’s, courtesy Dharma Productions once again.

Karan Johar explained why the film was with a weird spelling. He recalled that the film’s debut-making director, Raj Mehta, had approached him with a request to title the film A Good News. Obviously, the addition of the ‘A’ in the proposed title had something to do with numerology. “But since ‘A Good News’ is incorrect English, I declined,” revealed Karan. “It is then that they asked me if they could spell ‘News’ as ‘Newwz’. So long as the English was correct, I had no issue and so Good News became Good Newwz,” concluded Johar.

Going by the laugh-riot trailer, it can be safely predicted that:
(i) the film will open big, very big;
(ii) since it is scheduled for release on 27th December, the last Friday of 2019, this year will close with a bang;
(iii) Akshay Kumar, who has delivered three successful films in 2019, will have a fourth one in Good Newwz.

Interestingly, each new release of Akshay Kumar this year has surpassed the business of all his past films. His first release this year, Kesari, netted Rs. 150 crore which surpassed the collections of his highest-grossing film till then, Rowdy Rathore (Rs. 135 crore). His second release, Mission Mangal, entered the Rs. 200-crore club. His third, Housefull 4, has already surpassed Rs. 200 crore and may end its run at Rs. 205 crore or thereabouts. Let’s see if Good Newwz is able to outdo Housefull 4!
