GOVINDA ENTERS POLITICS AGAIN, JOINS SHIV SENA | 29 March, 2024

Actor Govinda, whose first stint in politics, following his victory over BJP veteran Ram Naik in the 2004 Lok Sabha polls on a Congress ticket, was far from memorable, entered politics once again yesterday (March 28). He joined Shiv Sena yesterday. Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde announced that the actor would work for the party and be a link between the film industry and the government. He stressed that the 60-year-old star had not joined the party for a ticket.

Still, rumours are rife that Govinda might be fielded from the Bombay North West constituency. Shiv Sena is reportedly in talks with a prominent Marathi film actor for the constituency but if he declines the offer, the constituency may see Govinda contesting from there.

On his joining Shiv Sena, the actor made speeches at the CM’s official residence in both, Marathi and Hindi. He said, “I will carry out any responsibility given to me, honestly… I will do well in the arts and culture department.”

It may be recalled that after his win in the 2004 elections, Govinda was ranked among the most absentee MPs.
