The release of controversial film Hamare Baarah has been postponed yet again.
Even as preparations for the release tomorrow (June 14) were afoot, the Supreme Court today (June 13) suspended the film’s release until the case is resolved by the Bombay high court. The apex court said, the teaser was full of “objectionable materials” and it took note of the allegations that the film was derogatory to the Islamic faith. It asked the Bombay high court to take an expeditious decision on the petition filed by Azhar Tamboli.
A vacation bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta heard a plea challenging the Bombay high court’s order granting permission to release the film. Incidentally, the film was banned in Karnataka earlier this week.
The film was originally scheduled to hit the screens on 7th June. But Tamboli filed a petition in the Bombay high court that the film showed the community in bad light and deserved to be banned. The court appointed a panel to view the film and give its findings. The Bombay high court then granted the producers permission to release the film after the deletion of some objectionable dialogues. The film was, therefore, rescheduled for release on 14th June.
