The week from August 11 to 17 will go down in film trade history as the Golden Week. The box-office takings in that week were at an all-time high because not only did the films (Gadar 2, Rajini The Jailer and Oh My God 2) released that week offer full entertainment to the audience but the week itself had two additional holidays — on 15th August (Tuesday) for Independence Day, and on 16th (Wednesday) for Parsi New Year.
Well, the happy times are expected to continue for some more time. The coming Friday (August 25) is also expected to be bountiful for the box-office — maybe, not as bumper as the Independence Day week but, nevertheless, one which is capable of warming the cockles of the heart.
What gives one the feeling that the coming Friday (August 25) will mark the beginning of a wonderful week ahead? In spite of the formidable opposition still posed by Gadar 2, the advance booking of Dream Girl 2 is pretty impressive. With tickets for the Dream Girl sequel selling well, especially in the multiplexes, the comedy fare is expected to clock more than Rs. 10 crore on the first day. For a medium-budget film, the figure is very good. As if that were not enough, Marathi film Subhedar is also attracting crazy crowds at the advance booking windows. Believe it or not but in several cinemas in Maharashtra, the advance booking of Subhedar is better than that of Dream Girl 2! The scene in East Punjab circuit is one of celebration. Again, in spite of Sunny Deol starrer Gadar 2 going great guns at the box-office there, tickets of the due-for-release Punjabi film, Mastaney, are selling so briskly that the trade expects the first day’s collection of Mastaney to cross the Rs. 2-crore mark! In Gujarat, there’s the Gujarati film, 3 Ekka, which is slated for release. It was scheduled for release on August 18 but was postponed by a week because of the opposition of Gadar 2. 3 Ekka is also expected to fare very well.
Let the party continue!
