The Gujarat high court on June 27 denied anticipatory bail to Bombay-based filmmaker Avinash Das for posting an allegedly obscene photo of a woman wrapped in the tricolour, saying that martyrs come wrapped in the national flag and it cannot be insulted. Das has been booked by the Ahmedabad crime branch under the Prevention of Insult to National Honour Act for sharing a painting on social media. He also faced charges for posting a photograph of Union home minister Amit Shah with a tainted IAS officer from Jharkhand, on a social media platform last month, insinuating that it was recent.
Das approached the high court after the sessions court refused him anticipatory bail.
