HRITHIK-KANGANA CASE GOES TO CRIME INTEL | 15 December, 2020

An FIR lodged by Hrithik Roshan in 2016 against unknown persons for creating a fake email id in his name and communicating with Kangana Ranaut has been transferred by the Bombay police to its Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) in a bid to speed up the probe. Four years back, Hrithik had complained of an alleged imposter sending Kangana emails in 2014, using a fake email id containing his name.

Pursuant to the FIR, the cyber crime cell of the Bombay police had registered an offence under IPC section 419 (punishment for cheating by personation) and section 66 of the Information Technology Act. They had issued Kangana summons to appear before them but she had challenged the summons, saying that they were illegal. The case has now reportedly been transferred to the CIU after Roshan complained to the Bombay police commissioner this month that there was no progress in the investigations although four years had elapsed.

For the uninitiated, Hrithik and Kangana had engaged in a battle of words in the media in 2016. After his FIR of 2016, Hrithik filed a complaint on April 7, 2017 with a cyber police station, in which he reiterated his request for a timely investigation.
