IRANIAN FILM BANNED BY INDIA | 17 July, 2020

The Maharashtra government on 16th July banned Iranian film Muhammad: The Messenger Of God after the Raza Academy asked for a ban on the ground that it could hurt the sentiments of a community. The film is slated to stream on an OTT platform from 21st July. Earlier, on 15th July, Maharashtra state home minister Anil Deshmukh wrote to Union minister for information technology Ravi Shankar Prasad, seeking a ban on the digital release of the film. Deshmukh said, the film may hurt a particular community’s sentiments and create a law and order problem. He added that the state government had received a complaint from the Raza Academy about the film being considered blasphemous by a certain community.
