JAVED AKHTAR CASE TRANSFER: KANGANA MOVES SESSIONS COURT | 18 December, 2021

Kangana Ranaut moved the Dindoshi (Bombay) sessions court on December 17, challenging the Esplanade (Bombay) court’s order rejecting her plea for transfer of veteran writer-lyricist Javed Akhtar’s defamation complaint against her, to another court. The actress had earlier claimed that she had lost faith in the Andheri (Bombay) metropolitan magistrate court that was hearing the defamation case. However, the additional chief metropolitan magistrate at Esplanade court had in October this year dismissed her plea.

Kangana’s revision application submitted before the Dindoshi sessions court said that the Esplanade court had failed to appreciate that the magistrate hearing the defamation case had grossly misused his power to cause intentional prejudice to her rights and liberties, with a biased mind, by inter alia indulging in the acts of threatening to issue an arrest warrant against her to secure her presence before him for a bailable and non-cognisable offence.
