Producer-director Johnny Bakshi (on the right in picture, with Mahesh Bhatt) passed away early this morning (5th September) in Bombay. He was 83. He was admitted to Arogya Nidhi Hospital at Juhu yesterday, with breathing problems, and was diagnosed with lung infection. He suffered a heart attack which proved to be fatal. He is survived by three sons, including actor Brando Bakshi, and a daughter.
Mahesh Bhatt debuted as a director with producer Johnny Bakshi’s film, Manzilein Aur Bhi Hain (1974). The other films produced by Bakshi were Vishwasghaat (1977), Raavan (1984; also directed by him), Meraa Dost Meraa Dushman (1984) and Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayee (1993). He had directed Khudai in 1994. He was executive producer of Kajraare (2010), and associate producer of Amit Khanna’s Bhairavi (1996). He also acted in a few films like Papa Kahte Hain, Pankh, Thank You and Haar Jeet.
