JUNIOR MEHMOOD PASSES AWAY | 8 December, 2023

Prolific actor Junior Mehmood, who had been suffering from stomach cancer, passed away at his residence at Khar in Bombay today (8th December) at 2.15 a.m. He was 67 and is survived by his wife and two sons. He will be cremated at the Santacruz kabrastan today.

Naeem Sayyed, more popularly known as Jr. Mehmood, was detected for fourth-stage cancer around 18-19 days back. His family rushed him to Tata Memorial Hospital where doctors opined that any form of treatment, including chemotherapy, would be very painful at that stage.

Jr. Mehmood started his career as a child artiste. His free and entertaining performances made him a favourite of the masses and, therefore, distributors. Special characters were written for him as he used to be an added attraction in films. He was a fantastic comedian who often brought the house down with his acting and antics. His screen name was given to him by veteran comedian Mehmood when they worked together in Suhaag Raat (1968).

Jr. Mehmood started his film career with Mohabbat Zindagi Hai (1966). Among his other well-known films are Naunihal, Caravan, Haathi Mere Saathi, Mera Naam Joker, Suhaag Raat, Brahmachari, Aan Milo Sajna, Do Raaste, ParvarishKati Patang, Hare Rama Hare Krishna, Geet Gaata Chal, Imaandaar, Baap Numbri Beta Dus Numbri, Aaj Ka Arjun, GuruDev, Chhote Sarkar and Judaai. In all, he had worked in over 200 films in different languages. He also acted in television shows like Pyaar Ka Dard Hai Meetha Meetha Pyaara Pyaara and Ek Rishta Saajhedari Ka. He had produced and directed some Marathi films.
