‘K.G.F. CHAPTER 2’ WRITES NEW CHAPTER IN BOX-OFFICE HISTORY | 20 April, 2022

K.G.F. Chapter 2 seems to have been made to write box-office history. Right from the word ‘go’, the Kannada film, which is also dubbed in Hindi, has been on a history-writing spree. Whether it was the film’s opening-day collections or the second, third and fourth days’ box-office numbers and, therefore, the first four-day weekend’s total or even the fifth and sixth days’ net collections, the film has smashed most of the previous records. Not just in the case of the Hindi dubbed version but also for the original Kannada version and the dubbed Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam versions, the action sequel has been throwing up one box-office surprise after the other. If the domestic collections are phenomenal, the Overseas figures aren’t any different.

Talking about the domestic box-office records created by the Hindi dubbed version alone, no film in the past, except Bahubali 2: The Conclusion (dubbed), has collected over Rs. 40 crore on each of the first four days. Its first day’s net collection of Rs. 53 crore was also the highest ever for an Indian film. The second , third and fourth day’s net collections were Rs. 44.50 crore, Rs. 42.50 crore and Rs. 48 crore. By implication, the first four days’ net total of Rs. 188 crore is historic. At the rate at which the crowds are going to the cinemas to watch the film, it should not be a surprise if the first 8-day week closes at around Rs. 260 crore! One has not seen such a total for any film, even in the pre-COVID era. The first week’s expected total would be better than the corresponding total of Bahubali 2: The Conclusion (dubbed) (Rs. 246.50 crore in 7 days) too which, incidentally, holds the record for the highest lifetime collections of a Hindi film. Next only to Bahubali 2: The Conclusion (dubbed) has been Dangal with its lifetime total of Rs. 387 crore. Obviously, K.G.F. Chapter 2 (dubbed) is all set to smash the record of Dangal because adding another Rs. 127 crore now seems to be a cakewalk for the Hindi dubbed version of the Kannada blockbuster starring superstar Yash and directed by Prashanth Neel. (By the way, Film Information‘s was the only review which predicted that the film had the potential to outdo Dangal.)

A very important point to be noted is that this film just might get a major boost in the Eid week (starting from 29th April). In other words, collections of K.G.F. Chapter 2 might see a huge jump in its third week because that part of the Muslim population which has not yet seen the film as it has avoided going to the cinemas during the holy month of Ramzan, may still want to watch it on the big screen rather than wait for it to be premiered on OTT. Yes, one never knows, the devout Muslim audience may keep the Hindi dubbed version of the Kannada film as its first choice, ahead of even the two new releases of that week, viz. Runway 34 and Heropanti 2. If that happens, K.G.F. Chapter 2 might be the first Hindi film (after Bahubali 2: The Conclusion (dubbed)) to join the Rs. 400-crore club. Why, even if that doesn’t happen, the film might cross the Rs. 400-crore mark. It just might!
