Kashmiri TV actress Amreena Bhat died of multiple bullet wounds after three Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists shot at her and her 10-year-old nephew outside her home at Hushroo in Chadoora area of central Kashmir in Budgam district around 8 p.m. on May 25. Both the victims were taken to SMHS Hospital in Srinagar after initial treatment at Chadoora but Amreena couldn’t be saved. The nephew’s condition is said to be stable.
Amreena’s murder brought back grim and sordid memories of terrorist outfits and ultra-conservative women’s organisations in Jammu & Kashmir, targeting singers and actresses, calling their professions un-Islamic and immoral.
