Actress Kavita Chaudhary, famous for her portrayal of IPS officer Kalyani Singh in Doordarshan’s popular TV serial Udaan, passed away on 15th February in Amritsar at Parvati Devi Hospital due to cardiac arrest. She was 67.
She had been admitted to the hospital a few days back due to low blood pressure. Her condition deteriorated and she became critical.
Kavita was often called by the name ‘Lalitaji’ after appearing as the character with that name in the iconic Surf detergent ad of the 1980s. “Surf ki kharidaari mein hee samajhdaari hai” and “Achchhi cheez aur sasti cheez mein fark hota hai” were catchphrases mouthed by the white-and-blue saree-clad Lalitaji in the ad, complete with a red bindi on her forehead.
