Hiphop Tamizha Entertainment’s Last World War (dubbed from Tamil film Kadaisi Ulaga Por; UA) is a science fiction action thriller set in 2028. In year 2028, China and Russia together have formed Republic, an alternative challenging the United Nations. India, which refuses to bow down to its neighbouring country, has to face the consequences. Down South, Nataraj (Natarajan Subramaniam) is the right hand of chief minister GNR (Nasser). Nataraj is the kingmaker and he makes the bedridden chief minister’s daughter, Keerthana (Anagha), her father’s political heir. Soon, Keerthana, assisted by her beau, Thamizh (Hiphop Tamizha Aadhi), starts making positive changes. But the biggest challenge facing Keerthana and Thamizh is how to counter the Republic and fight for their land and freedom after China has seized control over the state. The state has no other alternative but to declare the next world war, possibly the final.
Hiphop Tamizha Aadhi has written an imaginative tale of the future but he has tried to pack in so much that the initial excitement, when the drama starts, wanes away fast. The impact of the proceedings reduces quite a lot because of too much trying to be told in the limited time period. It appears as if the writer-director was keen on making a masala fare for every kind of audience and, therefore, did not keep anything out, that could get viewers inside the cinema halls, whether or not it was necessary and useful. What work are some comedy scenes and the stunning visual effects. Dialogues are okay.
Hiphop Tamizha Aadhi acts well in the role of Thamizh. Anagha is quite nice as Keerthana. Natarajan Subramaniam does an extraordinary job in the role of Nataraj. Nasser lends decent support as chief minister GNR. Azhagam Perumal has his moments as Pulipandi. Harish Uthaman is alright as Prabhjyot Singh. Siva Shara RA is okay as Rishikanth. Munishkanth makes his presence felt in the role of Encounter Dass. Singampuli leaves a good impression as Perumal. Kalyan Master is adequate in the role of the police commissioner. FJ, Guhan Prakash and Rocket Rajesh provide nice support. Elango Kumaravel is so-so as Bhai. Thalaivasal Vijay makes his mark as Ramki. Mahanadhi Shankar, Vijayan (as Priyanka Pereira), Mai Song Tung (as the General) and the others do as desired.
Hiphop Tamizha Aadhi’s direction is average. His music is fair but the songs in Hindi are not popular. His background music is nice. Lyrics are ordinary. Arjunraja D.F. Tech’s cinematography deserves distinction marks. Action and stunt scenes afford thrill. Visual effects are excellent. Pradeep E. Ragav’s editing ought to have been sharper. Dubbing is quite good.
On the whole, Last World War will go largely unnoticed — and not just because it has not been promoted well.
