NO BADA, NO CHHOTA, BOTH EID RELEASES LOSE ON BOX-OFFICE MAIDAAN

Both the big releases of this week have bombed. The Eid holiday on April 11 (Thursday) saw poor collections like rarely has any Eid holiday seen in earlier years. BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN opened to weak houses in multiplexes but was good in mass-dominated single-screen cinemas. MAIDAAN  was a non-starter almost everywhere! As shocking as the dull initials on Eid were the post-Eid day (April 12) footfalls for both the films. Traditionally, post-Eid day’s box-office collections are known to be bountiful.

Bade Miyan Chote Miyan netted only Rs. 10.50 crore on the first day, Thursday (April 11). Its collections dropped on Friday because of adverse public reports. The second day closed at Rs. 6 crore.

Maidaan cut a sorry picture with a weak start in paid previews on April 10 (Wednesday). It netted just Rs. 2 crore. The scenario did not improve on Eid too, with the total for April 11 (Thursday) being only Rs. 3.75 crore in spite of the holiday. The total for Friday was only Rs. 3.10 crore.

Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 9.80 crore. In this way, the second week’s total was Rs. 25.40 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 79.15 crore. The film is expected to benefit the most among all the running films, from the under-performance of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Maidaan as exhibitors are reducing a show or two of one or both of the aforementioned films and allocating them to this film.
