‘THE KERALA STORY’ IS UNSTOPPABLE

None of the new releases this week opened to even average houses. In fact, the opening of all the new films was dismal.

The Kerala Story was off to a flying start and scored fabulously all through the first week. In spite of a ban in West Bengal and an unofficial ban in Tamil Nadu, it netted Rs. over 75 crore in 1st week. It started with a take of Rs. 7.50 crore on the first day. Following extraordinary word of mouth, collections jumped to Rs. 10.01 crore on Saturday. The rise in collections on Sunday was phenomenal. The day closed at Rs. 15.43 crore. Collections remained supremely high during the weekdays too. After a first weekend total of Rs. 32.94 crore, collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 9.50 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 10.37 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 11.35 crore, Thursday – Rs. 11.55 crore. In other words, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 42.77 crore, far more than the weekend’s total! In this way, the first week closed at Rs. 75.71 crore. The film will join the Rs. 100-crore club in the second weekend itself. By the end of the third weekend, it is expected to cross the Rs. 150-crore mark!

Afwaah bombed miserably in 1st week.

Unwoman failed to do the trick in the first week and remained a non-starter.

Ramabanam (dubbed) fared miserably in 1st week.

Virupaksha (dubbed) proved a disaster in the first week.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 (dubbed and the original English versions) did fair business in the first week. It collected Rs. 6.55 crore on the first day. Collections went up less than 20% on Saturday and again less than 20% on Sunday so that the two days closed at Rs. 7.70 crore and Rs. 9 crore respectively. After a weekend total of Rs. 23.25 crore, collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 3.01 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 2.80 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 2.64 crore, Thursday – Rs. 2.30 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 10.75 crore. Total for 1st week: Rs. 34 crore.

Mother Teresa & Me (English) and its dubbed Hindi version, Main Aur Mother Teresa (which was released only in a couple of cinemas) performed miserably in 1st week.

Ponniyin Selvan-2 (dubbed) fell markedly in 2nd week. It started the second weekend with a net collection figure of Rs. 0.57 crore. Collections on Saturday and Sunday increased to Rs. 0.72 crore and 0.91 crore respectively, taking the second weekend’s total to Rs. 2.20 crore. Collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 0.26 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.25 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.22 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.22 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 0.95 crore. In this way, the total for the second week was Rs. 3.15 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 17.39 crore.

Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan netted only Rs. 2.32 crore in 3rd week. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 94.92 crore.

Baloch (Marathi) fared poorly in 1st week in Maharashtra.

Sari (Marathi) performed miserably in 1st week all over Maharashtra.

Marathi Paul Padte Pudhe (Marathi) bombed terribly in 1st week in Maharashtra.

Tendlya (Marathi) met with a disastrous fate in 1st week all over Maharashtra.

Maharashtra Shaheer (Marathi) did fairly well in 2nd week in Maharashtra.

Bushirt T-Shirt (Gujarati) did excellent business in 1st week all over Gujarat and Saurashtra.

Shubh Yatra (Gujarati) dropped in 2nd week but still managed decent collections in Gujarat and Saurashtra.
