‘AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER’ OFF TO FLYING START

AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER started on a fantastic note yesterday (16th December) in its original as well as dubbed versions. The 3D version, of course, opened far better than the 2D version. The Tamil dubbed and original (English) version’s release in Tamil Nadu was adversely affected because the stand-alone multiplexes refused to pay a higher percentage of share to the distributors than that agreed to by the national multiplex chains like PVR. Ego issues seem to have cropped up between the distributors and the multiplexes, because of which the film did not have a saturated release in TN.

Salaam Venky proved a debacle in 1st week all over. It barely managed to net Rs. 1.65 crore in the first week which, in many cinemas was also the last week.

Maarrich bombed in the first week all over.

Shadow Assassins could not do anything even remotely worthwhile in the first week.

Josef – Born In Grace bombed miserably in 1st week all over.

An Action Hero could hardly remain afloat in its second week after a rather sad first week.

Bhediya collected Rs. 4.82 crore in the third weekend but crashed rather badly during the weekdays when it netted another Rs. 2 crore only. Total for 3rd week: Rs. 6.82 crore. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 59.03 crore.

Drishyam 2 was unstoppable in its fourth week too. It started the fourth weekend with a take of Rs. 2.62 crore. Collections on Saturday jumped to Rs. 4.67 crore, because of which the film joined the Rs. 200-crore club after 23 days only. The jump on the fourth Sunday was huge. After netting Rs. 6.16 crore on Sunday (24th day), the film’s total for the fourth weekend went up to Rs. 13.45 crore. Collections on the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 1.61 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.57 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1.43 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.34 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 5.95 crore. Total for 4th week: Rs. 19.40 crore. Grand total for 4 weeks: Rs. 215.69 crore.
