‘OPPENHEIMER’ OPENS BIG, ‘BARBIE’ ALSO STARTS WELL, ‘MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – DEAD RECKONING PART ONE’ SCORES

Hollywood film OPPENHEIMER (dubbed and the original English version) opened to fantastic houses yesterday (July 21) in the national multiplex chains. Hollywood’s BARBIE (English) was also off to a good start yesterday.

Bharateeyans bombed miserably in the first week.

The Fighter Suman (dubbed) proved a debacle in 1st week.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (dubbed and the original English versions) swept the box-office in the first week, especially in the 5-day-long weekend. After a Wednesday (July 12) total of Rs. 12.27 crore and a Thursday net collection of Rs. 9.82 crore, the film netted Rs. 9.57 crore on Friday. Collections soared to Rs. 16.12 crore on Saturday, and further to Rs. 18.08 crore on Sunday. Thus the 5-day weekend total was an outstanding Rs. 65.86 crore. Collections dropped quite a bit after the phenomenal weekend. It netted Rs. 4.91 crore on Monday, Rs. 4.50 crore on Tuesday, Rs. 4.10 crore on Wednesday, and Rs. 4.08 crore on Thursday. Hence the total for the weekdays was Rs. 17.59 crore. In this way, the 9-day week closed at Rs. 83.45 crore!

Insidious: The Red Door (dubbed and the original English versions) fell dramatically in the second week. It netted Rs. 3.60 crore in 2nd week, taking its grand total for 2 weeks to Rs. 17.57 crore.

Satyaprem Ki Katha was steady at medium collections in the third week. It collected Rs. 5 crore in the third weekend, and another Rs. 2.40 crore during the weekdays. Therefore, its total for 3rd week was Rs. 7.40 crore. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 77.65 crore.

Date Bhet (Marathi) met with a disastrous fate in 1st week all over Maharashtra.

Baipan Bhari Deva (Marathi) recorded extraordinary collections in the third week too, all over Maharashtra. Ladies are patronising the film in an almost unprecedented way. It started the third weekend with a take of Rs. 2.40 crore on Friday (the best of the three Fridays). Collections on Saturday and Sunday rose to Rs. 5.05 crore and Rs. 6.05 crore respectively. In this way, the third weekend closed at Rs. 13.50 crore. Point to be noted is that the first weekend had closed at Rs. 6.45 crore while the second weekend, at Rs. 13.69 crore. Collections for the weekdays of 3rd week were: Monday – Rs. 2.15 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 2.10 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 2.05 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.44 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 7.74 crore. Hence the 3rd week’s total was a wonderful Rs. 21.24 crore. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 58.59 crore!

Carry On Jatta 3 (Punjabi) continued its victory march in 3rd week too. It netted Rs. 3.04 crore in East Punjab and Rs. 0.90 crore in Delhi and the rest of India. Hence the third week’s total was Rs. 3.94 crore. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 40.38 crore (East Punjab Rs. 32.02 crore, rest of India Rs. 8.36 crore).
