After last week’s dull opening of YODHA and dismal start of BASTAR THE NAXAL STORY, the tough times continue this week too. Both, MADGAON EXPRESS and SWATANTRYA VEER SAVARKAR, opened to dull houses yesterday (March 22). MADGAON EXPRESS netted only Rs. 1.63 crore in spite of the buy-one-get-one-free-ticket scheme which, incidentally, is being continued today (Saturday, March 23) too. SAVARKAR could collect only Rs. 1 crore on the first day.
Yodha fared poorly in 1st week in spite of the buy-one-get-one-free-ticket scheme on the second and third days and bulk corporate bookings. The film netted only Rs. 4 crore on the first day. Collections increased to Rs. 4.75 crore on Saturday. The total for Sunday was Rs. 5.25 crore. Therefore, the first weekend’s total was Rs. 14 crore. Collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 2.40 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 2.15 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 2 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.95 crore. With the total for the weekdays being Rs. 8.50 crore, the first week closed at Rs. 22.50 crore.
Bastar The Naxal Story performed miserably in 1st week except in C.P. Berar because its story resonates in and around Bastar. The first week closed at Rs. 1.31 crore only.
Gin Ke Dus proved to be a debacle in the first week all over.
Kung Fu Panda 4 (animation; dubbed and the original English versions) did average business in 1st week. The original English version collected far better than the dubbed versions. The film netted Rs. 2.20 crore on the first day. Collections picked up on Saturday which closed at Rs. 3.93 crore. The total for Sunday was Rs. 4.89 crore. Hence the total for the first weekend was Rs. 11.02 crore. Collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 1.23 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.17 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1.21 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.12 crore. Hence the total for the weekdays was Rs. 4.73 crore. In this way, the first week closed at Rs. 15.75 crore.
Shaitaan scored in 2nd week too, crossing the Rs. 100-crore mark in just 10 days. It started its second weekend with a take of Rs. 5.12 crore on Friday. Collections on Saturday and Sunday jumped to Rs. 9.12 crore and Rs. 10.17 crore respectively. After a bountiful second weekend total of Rs. 24.41 crore, collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 3.18 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 3.02 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 2.81 crore, Thursday – Rs. 2.66 crore. With the total for the weekdays being Rs. 11.67 crore, the second week closed at Rs. 36.08 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 117.68 crore.
Laapataa Ladies netted Rs. 1.80 crore in the third weekend and another Rs. 0.89 crore during the weekdays. Therefore, the total for 3rd week was Rs. 2.69 crore. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 13.08 crore.
Dune: Part Two (dubbed and the original English versions) started its third weekend with a net collection of Rs. 0.46 crore on Friday. Collections on Saturday and Sunday increased to Rs. 0.91 crore and Rs. 0.97 crore respectively, taking the third weekend’s total to Rs. 2.34 crore. Collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 0.25 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.26 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.29 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.28 crore. Hence the total for the weekdays was Rs. 1.08 crore. In this way, the third week’s total was Rs. 3.42 crore. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 24.70 crore.
Article 370 did fair business in 4th week. It netted Rs. 3.50 crore in the fourth weekend, and another Rs. 1.50 crore during the weekdays. Therefore, the total for 4th week was Rs. 5 crore. Grand total for 4 weeks: Rs. 72.95 crore.
