‘THE KERALA STORY’: SMALL FILM ALL SET TO BECOME BIG

THE KERALA STORY was off to a truly fine start yesterday (5th May). Considering that it has no saleable names in its cast, the first day’s collections (final figure not yet known) were extremely impressive. The explosive subject and the bold trailer did the trick. The non-star cast film is set to do great business if the public reports are anything to go by.

Bad Boy met with a disastrous fate in 1st week all over.

The Song Of Scorpions faced rejection in the first week.

Bera Ek Aghori proved to be a flop show in the first week.

Ponniyin Selvan-2 (dubbed) did average business in 1st week. The Tamil original scored wonderfully well, though. The Hindi dubbed version netted Rs. 2.18 crore on the first day. Collections on Saturday rose to Rs. 3.16 crore. On Sunday, the film collected Rs. 4.13 crore. After a first weekend total of Rs. 9.47 crore, collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday (May 1 holiday) – Rs. 2.16 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.96 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.80 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.85 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 4.77 crore. Total for 1st week: Rs. 14.24 crore.

Sisu (dubbed and the original English versions) could not do much in its first week in spite of positive word of mouth. Lack of promotion was the main reason for the poor initial. It netted Rs. 19 lakh on the first day. Collections went up to Rs. 30 lakh on Saturday, and further to Rs. 40 lakh on Sunday. After a weekend of Rs. 89 lakh, collections for the weekdays were: Monday (May 1 holiday) – Rs. 28 lakh, Tuesday – Rs. 14 lakh, Wednesday – Rs. 13 lakh, Thursday Rs. 12 lakh. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 67 lakh. In this way, the film collected Rs. 1.56 crore in the first week.

Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan underperformed in 2nd week, falling 80%. The second weekend started with a take of Rs. 2.25 crore on Friday. Collections on Saturday and Sunday were Rs. 3 crore and Rs. 4.25 crore respectively. After a weekend total of Rs. 9.50 crore, collections for the weekdays were: Monday (May 1 holiday) – Rs. 2.25 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.50 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1.25 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 6 crore. In this way, the total for 2nd week was only Rs. 15.50 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 92.60 crore.

The Pope’s Exorcist (dubbed and the original English versions) netted Rs. 34 lakh in 4th week. Grand total for 4 weeks: Rs. 13.13 crore.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie (animation, dubbed and the original English versions) collected Rs. 1 crore in the fourth weekend, and an additional Rs. 0.41 crore during the weekdays. Therefore, the total for the fourth week was Rs. 1.41 crore. Grand total for 4 weeks: Rs. 11.74 crore.

Maharashtra Shaheer (Marathi) did well in 1st week in Bombay as well as the rest of Maharashtra.

TDM (Marathi) bombed miserably in 1st week all over Maharashtra.

Shubh Yatra (Gujarati) has done very well in the first week in Gujarat and Saurashtra.
